3U CompactPCI CPU board with PowerQUICC III MPC8545E @1.2GHz, up to 1GB DDR2 SDRAM with ECC

Build around the second generation of PowerQUICC III designed by Freescale Semiconductor using 90 nm technologies, the new CSBX-3545A set a new level of performance per watt with power dissipation at 1.2 GHz similar to the previous generation at 800 MHz. 

 

 

Taking advantage of this feature, ACTIS engineers have been able to design a 3U CPCI Single Board Computer available either for standard convection cooling applications, or rugged conduction cooling critical embedded applications. The new CSBX-3545A processor runs at speed up to 1.2 GHz with up to 1 Gbytes of soldered DDR2-400 memory with ECC support and 8 Mbytes of Flash memory for the on-board monitor software. In addition 1 GByte NAND Flash is available for data or program storage.

What's new in the revision 2:

  • DDR2-400 memory support
  • Front I/O connectors for commercial grade
  • Improved PCB layout

To further increase the flexibility of the board, without compromising reliability or thermal dissipation with a mezzanine module, the ACTIS board includes an Altera Cyclone II FPGA offering up to 50k Logic Elements, 580 kbits of RAM, and 86 embedded multipliers. This FPGA, connected to its own 64 Mbytes of dedicated SDRAM memory, provides additional hardware computational resources to accommodate demanding applications or can be programmed to extend the interfacing capabilities of the board with user-tailored solutions.

In addition the CSBX-3545A provides two Gigabit Ethernet ports for Switched buses architectures (blades concept) and a standard 32-bit CPCI bus interface for local extensions. All I/O’s are available through the rear connector P2 and a rear transition module is available for convection cooling applications.

This board is available 3 temperature grades:
- commercial grade: 0 °C to +55 °C convection cooling
- industrial grade: -25 °C to +71 °C convection cooling
- extended grade: -40 °C to +85 °C conduction cooling

The CSBX-3545A is available either in convection (commercial and industrial) or convection (extended) cooling versions.

The convection cooling version offers a dual Gigabit Ethernet and one console port connections on the front panel. The conduction cooling version supports rear I/O connections only.

The CSBX-3545A is supplied with the U-boot bootloader. Both GNU/Linux (based on Debian 4) and VxWorks 6 RTOS environments are supported. Other RTOS are available on request.
